Q401: [LTO - FAQ for computer tapes] : What is LTO?

LTO is a high-capacity, high-speed data format developed by Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P., IBM Corporation and Certance LLC. This specification is fully open, and these companies plan to manufacture first-generation 100GB/cartridges (200GB compressed) to sixth-generation 3.2TB/cartridges (6.4TB compressed). There are two format types of LTO technology : high-capacity Ultrium and high-speed Accelis. Only Ultrium format LTOs are currently on the market.
