Q107: [General - FAQ for computer tapes] : How should I store and maintain computer tapes?

1) Controlling temperature and humidity
Each computer tape has particular usage and storage conditions. A computer tape's life will be shortened if it is left in direct sunlight, or used in areas of high humidity, high or extremely low temperature, or is subject to a rapid change in temperature. Use and store computer tapes properly. Please refer to the document of "Data Cartridge Media Care Guide".

2) Avoid magnetic fields and dust
Shield computer tapes from strong magnetic fields and dust. Data might be erased if a cartridge is placed near magnetized items such as cathode-ray tubes, transformers and speakers.Dust might also cause problems.A cartridge might be damaged by being left out of its storage case or inside a media drive for a long time. Please refer to the document of "Data Cartridge Media Care Guide".

3) Clean the media drive regularly
Using a media drive with a dirty head might cause data problems, so regularly clean the drive. When the media drive is turned on, its built-in fan might cause small amounts of dust to enter the drive. Clean the media drive before use, especially after a few days' interval. Please refer to the document of "Data Cartridge Media Care Guide".

4) Changing media
The life of each computer tape depends on the way it is used and stored, as well as the condition of the media drive. Replace computer tapes to suit as required. Please refer to the document of "Data Cartridge Media Care Guide".
