The radiation fan on the rear of the drive operates while the power is on, causing a small amount of dust to enter the drive. The drive chassis generates static, which also attracts dust. After such dust accumulates in certain parts of the drive and clings to the tape carrier, it might damage the media tape and cause a malfunction. Such dust might also damage the drive and cause it to fail. We recommend regular cleaning of the drive.
