Q302: [DLT/SDLT - FAQ for computer tapes] : Why is it taking so long for the media drive to load the computer tape?

The media drive might be replaying re-read operations because the drive cannot correctly read the data in the computer tape's calibration area, such as media format or other information.

This trouble can be attributed to the following reasons.

  1. Some errors occur in the data in the computer tape's calibration area. Common causes include damage caused by dropping a computer tape or leaving it near a magnetic field.
  2. The media drive cannot read the computer tape correctly, or an error has occurred in the data stored on the computer tape. This can be caused by a malfunction of the drive head or guide roller, or by changing the tension of the drive motors.

-This problem can be fixed by reformatting the computer tape or finishing calibration before deleting all data, then rewriting the cartridge label. If problems persist, contact our customer service center.
-If such trouble occurs when using different media, the problem might be related to the media drive. If this is the case, contact the drive's manufacturer.
